In India, Dyson has finally introduced their newest handheld vacuum; the Dyson V12 Detect Slim. This one is like a cross between the V11 Absolute and the V15 Detect (which is yet to be launched here). We have been using it for a few days now, and here’s our Dyson V12 Slim Detect review. How does the Dyson V12 Detect Slim work?

Dyson V11 Absolute vs Dyson V12 Detect Slim: What’s the difference?
The Dyson V11 Absolute and Dyson V12 Detect Slim are two different vacuum cleaners. The main difference is that the Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with the Laser Slim Fluffy and High Torque attachments, while the Dyson V11 Absolute does not. While the V11 Absolute misses out on this, it does come with more attachments and fittings. The V11 Absolute Pro is heavier at 2.9kg as compared to 2.2kg on the V12 Detect Slim but then comes with a more powerful motor (185 Air Watts vs. 150 Air Watts) and a bigger dust collection unit. Thanks to the Piezo sensor on the V12 Detect Slim, you immediately get to know the sizes and counts of the dust particles. While V11 Absolute lacks this sensor, it comes with DLS technology that automatically adjusts power across floor types. Unfortunately, V12 Detect Slim misses out on that. The rest, including the battery runtime, are similar (60 minutes each).
Dyson V12 Detect Slim: Attachments and Fittings
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim comes with a few new fittings, the Fluffy cleaner head, and the hair screw tool. 7 cleaner heads and an extension pipe and wand tool are included.

Other than these 7 cleaner heads, you get a charger, a wall dock, and a wand clip. The three large fittings with motorized attachments are designed for specific tasks: the crevice tool for tight spaces, the mattress tool for deep cleaning, and the brush tool for pet hair. The three large fittings draw power from the V12 Slim itself, whereas non-motorized ones work with all Dyson V-series vacuums. The wand tool is 75cm long and increases the device’s reach by about a foot, making it perfect for cleaning ceilings and corners.

The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a cordless vacuum cleaner that has been designed for people who have pets. It is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor and comes with a red power button instead of a gun-like trigger on the V11 Absolute Pro. This is done to avoid wrist fatigue, but somehow I still prefer the earlier trigger version. Unfortunately, the placement of the button is neither intuitive nor ergonomic. The device also has a smaller dustbin, but that’s expected considering its smaller footprint. The Dyson V12 Detect Slim has an excellent grip and can be used for longer durations without any difficulty. In addition, the battery is removable and can be charged in two ways- independently or while still attached to the device. However, one must purchase an extra battery separately if they want to use the vacuum cleaner for more extended periods without interruption. The LCD display shows power mode, countdown timer, dust collected information when the device is on, and battery level when being charged.
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim also comes with multiple modes (Eco / Auto / Turbo) that can be switched with a button just below the display screen. The door is opened and emptied easily by pushing the red handle outwards. However, make sure to do this over a designated bin, or else you will have dirt and garbage to clean up. The slim profile of the bin needed it to be detached for proper cleaning, so keep an eye on it when it’s in use! The transparent dustbin is designed to let you know when it needs to be emptied. The removable filter can be washed with water and dried thoroughly before attaching it back. The vacuum cleaner can also be cleaned using a cloth. However, all the contents will have been removed by then.
Dyson V12 Detect Slim Review: Performance
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a vacuum cleaner that comes with a lot of features. It has suction power slightly lower than the V11 Absolute, and it also has the tool balled up all hair on surfaces to send to the dustbin for disposal. People with pets will appreciate this a lot more. Also, the Fluffy cleaner head comes with a unique green laser emitter at the front bottom, which helps detect pet hair and other debris. As someone with a golden retriever whose hair color matches the vitrified tiles at home, I can attest to the usefulness of this green laser tech!
The Dyson V12 Detect Slim also comes equipped with a hyperdymium engine that turns up to 125,000 rpm and cyclone technology that increases the vacuum’s suction power by creating a centripetal force of up to 100,000G. This review’s performance metrics are focused on the Dyson V12 Detect Slim’s ability to clean efficiently. Dyson V12 Detect Slim Review: Battery Life

This is still significantly longer than other handheld vacuum cleaners on the market. The V12 Detect can last as long as 45 minutes when cleaning hard surfaces such as tabletops and curtains. This is due to its powerful motor, which makes it perfect for removing pet hair from furniture and other surfaces. The auto-mode lasts for 45-50 minutes on hard floors, so there is a longer range for carpeted areas. If you need more power, you can use the boost mode, which will last for just 8 to 10 minutes. However, be sure to use this mode sparingly in order to conserve battery power. In the Eco mode, runtime lasts an hour or more–perfect for those quick cleanups around the house. Plus, it’s a swappable battery technology on the Dyson V12 Slim, so you can always have a spare if needed!
